CDV of Major Vernon R. Bridges, Surgeon of the 126th Illinois Infantry. Ink inscription to image reads, “Maj. V R Bridges / Surgeon 126th Ills Infty.” A resident of Mattoon, Illinois, Bridges enlisted as a Surgeon on 14 August 1863 and mustered into Field & Staff on 14 December 1863. He mustered out with the rest of the regiment on 12 July 1865 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The 126th Illinois saw action at DeVall's Bluff and Jacksonport. Image shows light wear and scattered soiling. Two bottom corners clipped. Images measures 2.5'' x 4''. Very good condition.
