CDV of Major Samuel A. Pearce Jr. of the 10th Rhode Island Light Artillery and later Paymaster. Signed to reverse in ink, ''Respectfully / Saml A. Pearce Jr. / Paymaster / USA / Providence, R.I.” A resident of Providence, Rhode Island, Pearce was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant into the 10th Rhode Island Light Artillery on 26 May 1862 and mustered out with the rest of the regiment on 30 August of that same year. He was later commissioned into the U.S. Volunteers Paymaster Department on 28 May 1864 and discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel on 30 September 1866. Image measures 2.5'' x 4''. Light wear to image, else excellent condition.
