CDV of Sergeant Henry D. Payne of the 10th New York Heavy Artillery, Company A. Signed in ink to reverse, ''H.D. Payne / Sergt 10th Arty.'' Payne enlisted as a 25 year-old Private on 7 August 1862 at Watertown, New York. He was transferred to the 6th New York Light Artillery on 19 July 1865 as a 2nd Lieutenant. The 10th New York suffered losses at Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Cedar Creek and Bermuda Hundred. Image measures 2.25'' x 3.75''. Trimming to corners, else very good condition.
