CAULDON CHINA PLATES RALSTON SAN FRANCISCO
HISTORICAL CHINA: A rare chance to own a lot of twelve matching dinner plates 10 1/8'', white porcelain interior with an interior double ring and perimeter rim of embossed gold between which are a series of circles alternating between being rose floral or scrolled filled, all separated by gold encrusted design . Cauldron China Company, England (1905-1920), made each plate. Research indicates the United States usual distributor for this pattern was Tiffany and Company. Given the source of the owner, the set, from markings, indicate it went direct to the buyers. This set was made for the descendents of William Chapman Ralston (1826 - 1875), the dynamic driving force of early San Francisco. He was at his peak of his influence in 1860-1870's, when in 1864, he created the Bank of California and died in 1875, an estimated 50,000 people attended his funeral. This rare remainder was once part of a lavish set put up for auction by a direct decedent. Condition is excellent with no chips, minor ware marks.
