CATULLUS. The Poems of Caius Valerius Catullus, in English verse : with the Latin text revised, and classical notes. [Edited by John Nott]. Prefixed are engravings of Catullus, and his friend Cornelius Nepos : in two volumes. Printed for J. Johnson, St. Paul's Church-Yard, 1795FIRST COMPLETE ENGLISH TRANSLATION, with frontispieces engraved by William Blake after Della Rosa, pages xxxvi, 223 and errata leaf : (4), 236 and leaf of errata, complete with half-titles, 2 vols, 8vo, contemporary mottled calf, gilt ruled sides, fully gilt spines, inside gilt borders, with double green lettering pieces : the spines rubbed and two labels chipped but the bindings sound and very strong, light foxing of endleaves, but otherwise in bright, fresh state : a very good to nice copy. Bentley 441. 'Very rare … not recorded before.' - Keynes. However, both Brunet and Lowndes note the book, but not the Blake connection. The first complete English translation with Latin and English texts on facing pages. Nott (1751–1825), physician. The publication of The poems of Catullus, 1795, sealed his reputation as a gifted classicist and poet.
