CAST IRON COIN OPERATED SHOE SHINE MACHINE.
A great early and seldom found coin-operated machine, circa 1920s-30s. Most likely a machine of this nature would have been in a fancy hotel or high end restaurant and utilized by the male patronage. A somewhat massive as well as inordinately heavy, for only a penny, one could buff your shoes to a brilliant shine. Front door opens to expose the mechanism, mostly a professional grade motor and large revolving brush. Manufactured by the Automatic Machine Company of Rhode Island and Boston, Massachusetts, this unusual machine also has porcelain plates on either side indicating that for one cent you could save time and money and keep your black or tan shoes clean. Machine appears to be complete. However, coin slot is jammed and machine is untested. An excellent restoration with highlighting to iron castings and a most unique and enthralling piece of Americana from a bygone era. SIZE: 39" h x 16" w x 12" d. CONDITION: Overall an attractive restoration. Right side panel has a significant triangular shaped chip to porcelain (2/1-2" x 1-1/2") 1-12989
