CASED COLT 1851 NAVY REVOLVER. Cal. 36 Perc. Extremely fine early Navy with 7-1/2” oct bbl, New York City with dashes marking. Silver plated small brass trigger guard and backstrap with 1-pc walnut grips. Accompanied by an equally fine original Colt compartmented casing with green velvet lining. The case contains a Navy size flask with angle spout, double-sided with crossed pistols over stars and a spread-winged eagle holding crossed flags and an olive branch with a trophy of arms at the bottom. Also included is an iron Colt’s Patent two-cavity mold for conical and round bullets marked “36” on the side. In another compartment is a tin of Eley caps and the corner compartment contains five skin cartridges, 3 of which are broken. SN 27285. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, all matching including the wedge. Bbl retains 95-97% strong bright glossy blue with a flaked area near the muzzle, some minor sharp edge wear and a couple of small nicks and scratches. There is a spot of very fine pitting on the top flat. The rammer and lever retain most of their case hardening with the colors turned to silver. The frame retains 60-70% faded case colors with the balance turned silver and some light spots of discoloration. The hammer retains about 50% good colors, faded with the balance silver and with a few spots of pitting. The trigger guard and backstrap retain 96-98% strong original silver plating and the grips 97-99% bright original varnish with a couple of small bruises and a tiny scratch or two. The cylinder retains 60-70% blue mixed with flaked spots which have turned to a light patina and 98-99% of the Naval battle scene remains. Four of the 6 safety pins are intact with one partial and one peened over. The first couple inches of the bore are lightly pitted with the balance bright and shiny. The screws retain most of their original bright blue with the bottom grip screw and wedge screw showing screwdriver marks. The case interior is moderately faded with some wear and minor damage spots from the front sight and hammer spur. The flask retains about 80% of its original lacquer. The mold retains 25-30% original blue with good cavities. The exterior of the case is extremely fine with numerous fine light scratches and a bruise or two. An exceptional set. 4-49496 JR359
