BLOCK SINGLE SHOT RIMFIRE RIFLE. Cal. 32 & 44 RF. S# 21. Bbl. 26" 44 Cal. half oct. bbl. & 25 1/4" half oct. bbl. 32 Cal. bbl. w/ hooded front sights & 3 1/2" adj. rear sights as well as noted 2 adj. tang sights that are also cased. This is a fine example of the Allen breech loading rifle, totally unmarked other than serial numbers. One of the cased adj. sights is marked “ALLENS PATENT / OCTOBER 28 1862”. Mounted w/ nicely figured deluxe walnut stock. Case colored frame lowers block by trigger guard combination lever. This early 2 digit serial number was likely made early in the Civil War & some are known as secondary Martials. Casing is brass bound, burgundy velvet lined. From an 1870 advertisement, copy included, the deluxe features on this gun w/ exception of swivels were all added. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, receiver retains about 80% muted case colors. 44 Cal. bbl. retains over 90% bright blue finish, while 32 cal. bbl. retains about 40% finish. Stock is sound, well fit & retaining 90% bright piano finish varnish. 32 Cal. bbl. has lg. broken chunk of forestock which is retained in case. Mechanically crisp w/ shiny 44 cal. bore & very good crisp 32 cal. bore. Casing is sound & solid, cosmetic blemishes externally. Casing retains 2 screw drivers in very good condition, 2 serial numbered extractors. Lining is soiled, worn w/ several holes caused by sights. (01-18561/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
