<b>175. [CAPTURED CONFEDERATE PAPER]</b>
<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Letter penned on CSA watermarked paper captured from the blockade runner <i>Ranger</i>. <b>War-date</b> ALS, 11¾"x15", “<i>U.S.S. Minnesota, Off Newport News Va</i>” Jan 25, 1864. J. D. Williamson, USN, writes to his niece, Mary. “<i>I transmit this to you as a sample of the (Sheep Skin?) Paper on which the Commissions of the Officers of the Rebel Confederacy are issued by the so-called Confederate States of America</i>...” In a postscript he adds, “<i>This paper was made in England and was taken off the Anglo Rebel Blockade Runner ‘Ranger’ before her destruction at Lockwoods Folly Inlet at the entrance to the Port of Wilmington N.C.</i>” This paper, moderately toned, is not sheepskin. The integral leaf, separated, is darkly toned, but clearly watermarked “Confederate States of America” within a 10¼"x 7" decorative border. A cavalryman on horseback is at center, and the motto, “Deo Vindice” is on base beneath. A 1¾" fold separation at right margin of both pages of no affect. Very unusual.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
