<B>CAMPO DEL CIELO - AN INTRIGUING NATURAL SCULPTURE </B></I><BR><BR> <I>Iron, coarse octahedrite<BR>Gran Chaco, Argentina</B></I><BR>Fitting perfectly into the hand, this classic example of the well-known Campo del Cielo meteorite has the appearance of a cloud-form; with ridges and gullies, gradations of color from black to silver and gold-colored highlights, it calls to mind a multitude of familiar objects as one turns it to view at different angles: a pointing finger, the shape of North America, a dolphin, an old man with a grotesquely long nose. Yet however you look at it, it remains itself, a natural sculpture, uniquely formed by its burning-hot descent to the earth's surface and a reminder of the infinite variety and unmatched artfulness of nature.
