CAMPO DEL CIELO - A SUPERB EXAMPLE
CAMPO DEL CIELO - A SUPERB EXAMPLE

Iron, coarse octahedrite
Gran Chaco, Argentina
This meteorite has everything going for it. For a start, it is from one of the most renowned falls, the "Valley of the Sky" in Argentina, first documented in 1576. Next, it has a beautifully sculpted form, with no obvious up, down, back, or front, the entire surface is covered in deeps gullies and regmaglypts, broken up by a profusion of ridges highlighted by the silvery metallic color of its iron content. And finally, unlike most specimens from this fall, even those found only recently in the strewn field on higher ground, it exhibits next to no rusting, with a generally lighter and more silvery appearance than others from this shower - it could even be mistaken for the equally well-known Gibeons from Numibia. But a Gibeon it is not: it is an especially aesthetic example from the Campo fall, of good size at 9½ x 7¾ x 6 inches and weighing in at a fine 38 pounds.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
