CAMBRESIER, Jean.- Types populaires liégeois. Fin 19e s.- début 20e s. Aquarelles rehausées au trait à l'encre de Chine. Sous vitre et cadre de bois.
Panneau figurant 12 personnages vacant à leurs occupations et présentés par une mention ms. en liégeois : "d'Gilles, li côpeu d'tohets", "botteresse, qué bon café" et qui le savoure, "Marcatchou, rué des péheus" qui taquine le goujon, "Lambert, qué bon pequet" ou l'unijambiste assis à sa table de bistrot, le vendeur de journaux, etc.
Marylène Zecchinon a consacré son mémoire de fin d'études aux frères "Jean et Joseph Cambresier, la bohème et la ferveur" (Université de Liège, 2002, cfr http://www.art-memoires.com/lettre/lm2426/24ulgcambresier.htm). Jean Cambresier (1856-1928) fut décorateur d'assiette en porcelaine. Plusieurs de ses sujets, ici figurés, ont été repris en porcelaine comme par ex. Marcatchou, figuré sur une assiette conservée au Musée régional d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de Visé. Les autres personnages figurés sur notre panneau semblent aussi connus de Zecchinon : "Cambresier a [...] représenté les "Types populaires liégeois", personnages que l'on rencontrait dans les rues de Liège, fin du XIXe et début du XXe siècle. Cambresier contribua d'ailleurs, par ce travail, à asseoir la réputation de certains d'entre eux, comme Gilles, le châtreur de chats, la botteresse - jeune ou vieille, maintes fois mise à l'honneur - Désiré, le petit vendeur de journaux, Paganini, le joueur de mandoline ou encore Marcatchou, surnommé "le roi des pêcheurs". Ce dernier dépensait toutes ses économies en boissons et en articles de pêche; il maniait la canne à pêche avec dextérité, conservait les asticots vivants dans sa bouche et réalisait souvent de belles prises".
Cambresier sera membre effectif du Cercle des Beaux-Arts fondé à Liège en 1892 ; il y exposera régulièrement de 1894 à 1908. 600 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 EUR will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Euro's. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 EUR or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Euro's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
