One of the finest craftsmen of miner’s candlesticks, Charles Samuel Cleaves was practically born and raised by the California Gold Rush. The son of Irish immigrants, Cleaves would have spent his early years surrounded by the diverse mining culture of Weaverville, CA. The town became well known not just for its mining, but the high numbers of Chinese miners who worked in the town. Cleaves would spend his entire life in the town of Weaverville working as a blacksmith, crafting everything from horse bits and spurs to candlesticks. This beautifully crafted fuse cutter model measures about 10" long. There are some minor dings but the stick is well maintained. The classic signature of Cleaves is found on the thimble of sticks he made. HKA#62632
