CAB CALLOWAY PHOTO AND EARLY FLYER
(1907 - 1993) American musician and bandleader most remembered for his hit song "Minnie the Moocher". Superb I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, an excellent vintage chest-up portrait showing the great bandleader from mid-chest up in a white tuxedo and grinning broadly, inscribed and signed in blue ink and adding his trademark: "Hi de ho". Fine. Sold with a ca. 1935 bi-fold handout issued by the famous Savoy Ballroom in Chicago welcoming a young Cab Calloway for a one night performance, picturing him on the first page and his band within. Erskine Tate also appeared on the bill. A few folds and wrinkles. A great pair of items. Unrelated items in this lot include jazz guitarist CHARLIE BYRD (1925-1999), S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, a performance candid signed partly in the dark area, and jazz, jump blues, and rhythm and blues trumpeter COOTIE WILLIAMS (1911-1985), S.P. 3" x 5" b/w, performing, and a signature on a small card.
