A paid check drawn on the First National Bank of Los Angeles from the Skidoo Trading Company General Merchandise, Mining Supplies, Meat Market company. This is check #378 issued to Swift & Co. for $68.82. Signed by Austin Young for the Skidoo Trading Company. Yellow paper with black print. Printer: Union Litho. L.A. When two prospectors got lost in a rare Death Valley fog while travelling to Harrisburg in 1906, they came across some gold-bearing ledges and the town of Skidoo had its beginnings. A year later there were over 500 residents and a post office. By 1917 one of the mines reported 1.5 million in gold production. Today no buildings remain, just a few fallen structures [Courtesy of Stanley Paher].
