Pennsylvania Lode. Incorporated in 1863. Cert. # 81 issued to Thomas Broun for 10 shares. Signed by S. Davidson, president, and by T.S. Broun, secretary. Vignette at top of mountain vista, a miner swinging a pick axe at left, and a side-wheeler/steam boat at bottom. Black border with red print and highlights. Adhesive revenue stamp at top left, 25ct. U/C. Printer: H.S. Crocker & Co., Sacramento. Datelined San Francisco. 5 ¼ x 10 ½.” Property is located in the south-central part of the county, about 10 miles south of Markleeville. Silver Mountain City, the first seat of Alpine County, was originally named Kongsburg (later Konigsburg), having initially been settled by Scandinavians. Unfortunately, the district was not very productive. Many of the properties were controlled by the English firm, the Isabel Mining Company.
