1889-This lot contains 21 journals, drawings and assorted other items belonging to California shipbuilder and draughtsman Leon Dennison. Dennison worked for Union Iron Works in The City during the contract awarded by the United States Navy for the company to build the first battleship on the west coast, The Oregon that was launched in 1893 and became part of the Great White Fleet. The lot also contains several blueprint plans for other ships that became part of this historic armada, including the Ohio, The New Hampshire and the Milwaukee and others. There is also an invitation to the launching of the Oregon, which was launched on Thursday, October 20 at 11:46 a.m.
Besides being an interesting set of documents and personal memoirs, this is also a historic lot, very reflective of the times. HKA#64908
