1850s-60s-Lot of 4 different prints—2 in full color—of Sacramento and of Mormon Island in the American River. Three are framed and under glass. 1) A newspaper etching titled The Great Conflagration of Sacramento, California. It shows the city’s port on fire as seen by survivors in various little boats in the river. The article from the Illustrated News is on the reverse, dated Jan. 1, 1853. Picture measures about 8" x 10", is double matted, and framed in a gilt and wooden 3” frame. 2) View of Mormon Island, black and white engraving from a drawing by D.W. Nayson, dated 1851 from Gleason’s Pictorial. Picture measures approximately 8" x 9”, is single matted and mounted in a 1” wooden frame. Explanatory article on the reverse. 3) Sacramento City of California, color print measuring 4" x 6,” double matted and mounted in a 3” gilt and wooden frame. Published in Austria. 4) Unframed color engraving, View of Sacramento as it Appeared During the Great Inundation, (1862), shows flood waters nearly covering the buildings. Engrvd. By W. L. Ormsby.
