Lot of 26. Twenty-five editions of Weinstock’s Store News of one of the biggest department stores in the U. S. that originated in Sacramento. All are eight pages in length. Its main store was on K Street in downtown. It would later expand and then in the 1990s the chain was purchased by The Broadway chain and then sold to Macy’s. Macy’s ended up closing most Weinstock’s stores that were not converted to Macy’s. This collection of the store news has 25 editions of Vol. 500 from 1923. There are several duplicates of numbers 114, 115, 116, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, and 127. The editions begin with number 113 in August and end at 129 in December with the Christmas issue. Only two have any damage. Most are remarkably well preserved. The articles include stories about Native Americans in the Sacramento area and the California Missions to name a few. Most interesting is the look back at fashion and toys.

Lot of 1. The Life of Gen. John A. Sutter. Frances Fairchild wrote this historical sketch of Sutter but the book also includes sketches of the Pony Express, the 1851 Vigilance Committee, Snow Show Thompson, Captain Weber, the Russian California, Peter Lassen, Thomas O. Larkin, and James Marshall among others. Includes pictures of the author and some of the people and areas Fairchild wrote about. Excellent condition. No page count.
