Lot of 10 pieces of correspondence, both handwritten and typewritten, of real estate issues in Redlands, California. Redland, located in San Bernardino County, was established in 1888. Prior to the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the district was known as Lugonia and did not boast a large population until the arrival of the railroads which created a land boom that brought many people to the area. The present name of the area is derrived from the color of the soil, a red adobe. The correspondence comes from various people and companies, but is all in regards to real estate. Dates of the correspondence are as follows: May 9th, 1898,; June 14th, 1893; June 27th, 1898; May 14, 1873; Jan. 5, '97; Dec. 7th, 1906; Dec. 12th, 1906; June 9th, 1893; and one partial letter with no date. The correspondence is all on official company letterheads and is in good condition. [Gudde, Edwin G. California Place Names. 1949].
