Yellow Aster was easily the largest and richest of the southern California gold mines. The company was managed by John Singleton, though the business aspects were managed by a woman named Mrs. Rose Burcham, who ruled the company’s finances with an iron fist. She was so successful she upset their competitors because she chose not to cut friendly deals for stock, thereby making the original founders millions. Randsburg, initially called Rand Camp, is located in Kern County, California, approximately 17 miles south of Ridgecrest at an elevation of 3500 feet.
