This bag includes prescriptions, purchase receipts, bills, and letters about California Gold Rush history as she was researching a book and gathered information from various sources. There are several separate letters with covers included. Examples of the letters are from Judge Arnot of the El Dorado Superior Court in May of 1910, and another is from Maude A. Horn, an insurance agent, from Georgetown, CA in 1933. Others are from friends such as Margaret Woodman in San Francisco. Most covers have the red two cent, adhesive, George Washington perf stamp. The most unusual stamps are an adhesive, perf, three cent, red Maryland Tercentenary stamp and a purple adhesive, perf, Chicago centennial commemoration stamp with a picture of a federal building on it and the dates 1833-1933. There are several covers with no attached letters. Two of those have no stamps, eight have the red George Washington two cent stamp and one has two green Ben Franklin one cent stamps. The covers have a variety of California postmarks. A handwritten indenture between F. Mierson and F. H. Plumado is also included. There are a few postcards, one seems to be hand drawn. Also included are several different newspaper articles on California Gold Rush history. One is about the “Powder River Kid.” There are several excursion receipts, and an eyeglass cleaning cloth. An unusual item included here is a booklet of the by-laws of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Parlor 9 of Placerville. The items have varying degrees of condition. All the written items are easily readable. The newspaper articles are yellowing. The item with the most damage is an excursion envelope with foxing or many water marks. Quite an interesting collection from a local Placerville author.
