This 12 tall hand thrown vessel is glazed with a variety of colors including lilac, hunter green, sky blue, peach, and a dark raspberry. The interior and foot of the vessel are coated in a uniform buff colored glaze. The collared mouth is 5.25 wide and the foot is 6.75 wide. The patterns on the vessel include thin black outlines and geometric patterns that would have complemented the architecture of the Wovoka Estate. The foot is signed Bellaire 1990, indicating that Marc Bellaire, protégé and eventual competitor of Sascha Brastoff, made this piece just four short years before he passed away in 1994. Born in Toledo Ohio in 1925, Bellaire began his career as a potter in 1950 when he moved to southern California. His modern art pieces captured the free expression of southern California art movements, and many of his pieces include figures and landscapes germaine to the American southwest. In the 1951-6 period, he was named one of the top ten artware designers by Giftware Magazine. In addition to his success as a fineart potter, he taught ceramics, painted, and published several books on the subject. Wovoka Collection HKA#63024
