This impressive 16.5 tall handthrown and hand glazed ceramic vessel features a dark glossy brown glazed interior, and a cream and buff flecked exterior with brown, tan, pink, red, and blue colored slip glazes in a southwestern geometric style pattern. Slips are typically applied after the clay body has dried and before it has been fired in a kiln. The slips are then fired with the clay body to fuse them together. The final glaze work involved coating the interior of the vessel with a lustrous dark brown glaze, and flecking the exterior with a clear glaze, which gives the final fired piece a speckled, almost dewy look. The tapered foot of the vessel is 8 wide, and the collared mouth is 7.5 wide. The foot is signed Bellaire 1991 and a certificate of authenticity with the same date is included with the vessel. Marc Bellaire was an internationally recognized potter and fine artist who began his clay work in 1950 at the age of 25 and continued to enjoy creative success until his death in 1994. This vessel was among the last he created before passing away. This piece, and the other Bellaire vessel in this auction, are high-art pieces that capture the palettes and geometry of the American Southwest. Flawless condition. Wovoka Collection HKA#63073
