8”x 6” on 12 ¼ ”x 10 ¼” black matte. Slight wear on the sides of the matte, with a small piece missing on the upper right corner. Photo has a small mark in the lower left corner. And some age marks in the upper portion of the photo. No photographer identified. Photo shows two miners sitting on an idle cart full of ore, pulled by a team of horses. They are next to a wooden structure that is described as being a part of the Exposed Treasure Mine. The Mojave Desert landscape provides a background, a beautifully isolated scene for the mining photograph. The rush for gold in the Mojave Desert started in 1894 when George Bowers made a gold discovery in the area known as Stander Hill. Several mining claims soon moved in including the Exposed Treasure. But by 1916 the mine was closed. [Hensher, Alan, 1991, Ghost Towns of the Mojave Desert (California Classics Books: Los Angeles, CA) 63 p.]
