This lot of 22 mineral specimens consists of a number of uncommon and rare borates, phospates, calc-silicates, and cerium carbonate-fluorides from a number of localaties within southern California. Samples range 1 to 3 inches in diameter. A unique assemblage of skarn minerals from the metamorphosed limesteones of the Creston Quarry, Riverside Co. are contained within this collection. This include diopside, gehlenite, merwinite, spurrite, riversideite, and crestmoreite - with this being the type locale for the later two minerals. Also related to this same mineralizing system is an example of vonsenite, an uncommon mineral from boron-rich skarn deposits. It is likely from the Old City Quarry, Riverside Co. Also included are two samples of lazulite - a brillant blue phosphate - and multiple examples of the ore mineral bastnasite from the Mountain Pass Mine - the US's only rare earth element producer. There are a number of borates within this set, including proberite, meyerhofferite pseudomorphs after inyoite, and bakerite - a rare hydrated calcium boro-silicate hydroxide that is only found within Death Valley. Miscellaneous minerals within this lot consist of andesine, thernadite (a sodium sulfate), torbernite (cooper uranyl phosphate), nice euhedral clinozoisite and hedenbergite, and the uncommon calcium alluminium phosphate woodhouseite. Given the diversity in mineral species, this lot is for the collector interested in odd and unusaul mineral assemblages.
