Mounted in a textured, woven-looking, tan-colored and sage green double matte. Photo measures 6 x 8.” No photographer’s name is evident. On the reverse is the following: Property of Walter W. Williams, 320 North “A” St. Madera, Calif. Sugar Pine Mill in operation before the fire which destroyed it in 1922. Rebuilt and operated until 1932. Built about 1905.” This site is about 5 miles north of Yosemite Forks near the south entrance to Yosemite Park. The community of Sugar Pine was built about 1900 by the Madera Sugar Pine Company, which had extensive logging operations in the area from the 1890s to 1931. The company housing units, which have been modernized over the years, are still used as residences and vacation homes. The post office was established in 1907 and discontinued in 1934 [Ref: U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Sugar Pine, California].
