Lot of 2 items: 1) Homer Mill & Mining Company Stock Certificate. Homer Mining District, Mono County, incorporated Oct. 20, 1879. Certificate No. 231, issued for 25 shares to F.E. Lutz, Trustee, on Nov. 17th, 1879. Signed by W. Atkinson as Vice-President and F.E. Lutz as Secretary. No vignette, company name written in fancy print with ornate border. Black border and print. U/C, with embossed seal at top right. Lith. Britton & Rey, S.F. Two assessments, stamped "Paid" on reverse. Dated Feb. 18, 1881 and Aug. 1, 1882. Measures 9" x 4", slight foldlines noted, otherwise very fine. 2) Check from Vernon, Mono Co., Cal., dated Nov. 25, 1882. No. 378, paid at "five days" to the order of A.M. Thomas for $3.50. Signed by Superintendant Allan Beard. "To Detroit Copper Mining Co., 331 Montgomery Street, Room 3, San Francisco" printed at center bottom. Stamped "ACCEPTED" on Dec. 1, 1882. Two endorsements handwritten and one stamped on reverse. Vignette of miner pushing ore cart out of mine at far left. Red ink on yellow paper. Measures 8 1/2" x 3 1/2", with multiple pinholes at far left and several foldlines noted. This mine was located on Copper Mtn., northeast of Lundy Lake, in the Jordan district. About $60,000 of ingot copper was produced between 1879-1883. Work was suspended in 1883, and reopened from the 1890's until 1908. The town of Lundy, originally called Mill Creek, was named after William Lundy, who obtained a timber patent in 1880 [Ref: Gudde, 1849, pp.197].
