Lot of 4 Trolley Trip pins. RARE, colorful, pictorial, approx 32mm in very good to excellent condition. Trolly Trips include: Old Mission marked by Weber as VERY RARE, with no mfg card on back, Triangle, also with no mfg card, a general Pacific Electric made by L.A. Badge & Mfg Co. 342 S. Broadway, and a Tilton's made by Whitehead & Hoag, Newark, NJ.

While the first streetcar system in L.A. dates back to 1874, the Pacific Electric Railway Co. was established by Henry Huntington in 1901 when he took over several other smaller streetcar lines in the L.A. area. Huntington took over control of the LA. Consolidated Electric Railway with his uncle (president of the Southern Pacific Railroad) and a group of investors and the "Red Cars" were born. After what was called the "Great Merger" in 1911, Southern Pacific Railroad bought out most of Huntington's railways. According to a University of Southern California article titled "The Red Cars of Los Angeles", at its peak the Pacific Electric Railway was huge: 1,150 miles of track covering four counties and 900 cars. 1944 marked the highest ridership: over 109 million passengers. Red Car trolleys are recognizable to this day and have been captured forever in America's memory due to the film industry boom in Southern California. These pins represent Los Angeles in it's heyday and are highly collectible.
