Datelined City of East St. Louis, Ills., November 23, 1889. Signed by Jeff Chandler as President and Cyril Williams as Secretary. While little can be found concerning this particular company, its name can likey be traced to the town of Coulterville and the Virginia Mine, both located in Mariposa County. The Coulterville district covers southwestern Tuolumne County and northwestern Mariposa County, extending between the McAlpine mine southeast through the town of Coulterville to Virginia Point, a distance of about 10 miles. Coulterville was named for George Coulter, who opened a store in the area in 1849.
