A billhead for the above company, billed to Mr. T.H. Johnstone and paid, in the amount of $13.10. On a half-sheet lined paper. The town was founded in 1864 under the name of Deep Creek, and the first post office opened in 1869. William Cressler and John Bonner operated a trading post there and later constructed the first road over Cedar Pass, which connected Surprise Valley (Cedarville) to Alturas and other parts of the county.
