Lot of 2. 1). White border real photo postcard of the mining camp. Used. The writer states that it cropped up soon after his arrival. "It lies twenty miles from where I am. It is right across the line in Cal." Single ring postage seal from Mar. 27, 1908 (Searchlight, NV.) The photograph for the postcard has: "Camp Hart, Jan. 12, 1908" inscribed at bottom. 2). Prospectus. Hart, Ca. "Building a Fortune." Opening has a bird's eye view of the town ca. 1909. Each page has a 2.5" x 4" inset photograph of miners, mine shaft, gallows frame and engine house on Jumbo, among others. The prospectus lists returns from California mines, and how fortunes were made. This lot shows the progression of development of the town. Prospectus is in a slightly worn green cover with a pamphlet stitch binding. The Hart Mining District was active 1908-1915. Gold was discovered there in 1907. The district and town were named by one of its discoverers, Jim Hart. By the time mining ceased, there were several saloons, a book store, and a newspaper [Ref: Gudde, California Gold Camps, 1975, p. 152]. - Clint Maish Collection
