Lot of 4 RPCs by Burton Frasher (pronounced Frasier), showing Bodie’s main street (2), a birds eye view taken from Cemetery Hill, and the “Ghost City” taken from a nearby hillside. Born in Aurora, CO in 1888 (died 1955), Frasher’s interest in photography began as a teenager when he followed the fruit harvests as a crate maker. By WWI he had decided to open a stationary and photo business and by 1920 he settled in Pomona. In the ensuing years he married, fathered a son, and continued his penchant for motoring to the Sierra Nevada and even further afield, always taking photographs along the way. An avid fisherman who camped out all over the eastern Sierra, Frasher became familiar with many of the hotels and on one occasion was asked by a proprietor if some of his photos could be printed in post card format. Thus, the post card side of his business began and rapidly expanded. Frasher was enthusiastic about car travel and between 1920 and 1940 his photographs helped to open up America’s interest in exploring the West by automobile [Ref: content.ci.pomona.ca.us/index_frasher.php].
