"Use of Electricity in Mining Operations, 1894" by Thomas Haight Leggett, Bodie, Mono County. Written for the Twelfth Report of the California State Minerologist, Published by the Sacramento State Office. Softbound volume is inscribed by H. Gaytes. Original paper cover, 45 pages, 6”x9”. Included is a description of the power transmission plant of the Standard Consolidated Mining Company at Bodie including interior photos of the motor room and the motor switchboard, and exterior photos of the Power house at Green Creek (Std. Consolidated) and the power pole lines 10 miles from Bodie. Also line drawings of the power plant and power line locations. The power plant was needed as the cost of operating the 20 stamp mill at the Std. Consolidated was running about $2,000 per month. The use of water generated power from Green Creek on the north slope of Castle Peak in the Sierra Nevada solved the problem. Green Creek was one of the main sources of the East Walker River. The entire cost of the plant was $38,000. The rest of the book lists other generating stations built by mining companies in other states and areas. Cover is worn at the spine and the back cover has chips missing at margins. VG~Est. $200-400
