Lot of two, including: 1) Oro Mining Company, incorporated Oct. 11, 1878. Certificate No. 1581, issued to W.E. Norwood, Trustee, for 15 shares. Datelines San Francisco, February 10, 1881. "Bodie Mining District, Mono County, Cal," printed under company name. Signed by Charles W. Banks as Vice-President and Tm. Frank as Secretary. No vignette, black print on yellow paper. U/C. Assessments 8-12 stamped on the reverse. Lith. Britton & Rey, S.F. Profitable amounts of gold were discovered in Bodie in 1860, but the district became much more important in 1877 after the incorporation of the Standard mine produced over $1 million in 1883. Many companies incorporated in the area, but was still considered a wildcat in 1878. Photocopy of one page article discusses Oro's assessments for 1882, as well as a short discussion of Oro "rich discovery" in the fall of 1882. The name of this company is consistent with the fact that most of the district's miners were from Mexico (Ref: Burchard, 1884, p. 173-76).

2) Old Gold Mining Company, incorporated under the laws of the State of Arizona, 1827. Certificate No. 158, issued to J. Berger for 500 shares. Signed by J. Berger as President and W. Marty as Secretary. Ornate company initials at center top, with fancy orange border and embossed seal. Jeffries Lithograph Co., Los Angeles, U.S.A. Copy of cover and pp. 634 of The Mines Handbook, Vol. XVIII (1931), discusses the Old Gold Mining Co.
