"Map/of the/Principal Mines/in/Bodie Mining District,/Mono Co. Cal./May 1880./Scale 6 chains to one inch." Information on this map was "Compiled from Official Surveys/and other authentic Data/By/H.F. Baker, C.E.M.E./324 Pine St S.F./Cal." Lithographers were Britton & Rey, S.F. Also noted along the lower border was the statement: "Entered According to Act of Congress in the Year 1880, By H.F. Baker, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C." The map measures 37" x 22", and is mounted on a brown matte. The frame is dark brown wood with gold trim (43 1/2" x 26"). A wooden hanger with a hook still visible on the upper edge remains atttached to the top of the map, while a wooden roller is mounted along the bottom edge. The map was drawn on a brown backing (may have grown darker with age) and green border. While a total of 35 mine sites are noted in black, 14 have borders highlighted in light green: Spaulding, Boston Con., Concordia, White Cloud Con., Republic Con., Oro, Mono, Addenda, Savage, East Savage, Bulwer, Con. Pacific, Tioga, and Black Hawk. In addition to naming and identifying the district's mines, the map also notes the location of the town of Bodie, Bodie Creek, Bodie Tunnel, High Peak, Queen Bee Hill, Silver Hill, Bodie Bluff, Standard Mill Site, Syndicate Mill site, and the road going opposite directions to Aurora or Bridgeport. Foldlines with 1" tear near center top and bottom with several other small tears and stains visible, otherwise very fine.
