CA - Bartlett Saloon Photograph :
Dark marble front with a wood top. Spittoons lie across the floor of the bar. No bar stools, chairs or tables, just an empty saloon which may indicate its opening. 3 bartenders behind the bar, each with what appears to be alcohol filled glasses. Two other men stand in the corner on the other side of the bar near a card trade stimulator. This particular stimulator may be one of the first poker slot machines of the 1890s which paid out in cigars or drinks. Behind the bar is an oversize rock or wooden carved-like wall, creating a cave-like illusion. Near the centered mirror and cash register, champagne bottles and light bulbs are fixed in the wall. At the top of the cave-like structure is a sign "Bartlett Mineral Water" hung below a pair of deer antlers. An "Oyster Cocktail" calendar with a picture of a Victorian lady hangs to the right. An additional petite sign next to it appears to read "Hot Beef". Photo measures 8 1/2" x 6 1/2", mounted on a black matte that measures 10 3/4" x 9". Yellow stains to the left of the photograph and hole punctures along the matte and tears along its edges. Contrast and focus are good.
