Monitor District. Incorporated in 1875 in California. Cert. #1351 issued to Henry S. Dodge for 100 shares. Signed by Cyrus Palmer, president, and by secretary. No vignette but county seal appears at upper right. Black border and print. U/C. Printer: A.E. Bancroft & Co., S.F. 4 x 8 ¾.” Datelined San Francisco. There was a Cyrus Palmer who was a member of the State Assembly on two different occasions. The first time, from 1857-59 he represented the 5th Ward of San Francisco. The second time, in 1863, he represented the 8th Ward of San Francisco. This might be the same Palmer. Ancestry.com lists a Cyrus Palmer in the 1880 census living in San Francisco and as owning and running a foundry. According to Raymond, "the company's stock did not trade in 1876 and was considered worthless. . . . By 1879, Burchard reported that it was promising. It was next to the Colorado Mine on the south" [Ref: Holabird, Western Americana, Auction #9, Volume 1: California, Arizona, Nevada, & Other Western States, p. 14, 2001].
