C. S. Richmond .58 caliber percussion carbine ,25” barrel, showing 1864 date on rear of hump-back lock, clearly marked C. S. Richmond, VA. Refer Flayderman 10-050. Shows swivel and triggerguard on front barrel band. No third swivel screwed into underside of buttstock with correct iron pyramid type front sight. The metal surfaces show a deep brown patina finish, scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The brass buttplate and forend cap show a dark brown patina. The breech shows pitting from firing around rear of barrel and breech plug. The stock shows dings, mars, small losses around the lock, and some damage and small losses around front barrel band. The inside of the lock shows a large “J” initial inspection, and the interior of the stock shows alteration for confederate lock, which is in our opinion always been with this carbine. And also the escutcheons around the screw appear to be confederate made. The screws patina on the inside lock inletting and screw hole escutcheons all appear undisturbed in our opinion. The carbine shows Springfield inspection marks, the stock shows even patina and wear, rust on the screws, no evidence of fakery of any type. An original to the period cut down
