Stephens is requesting permission for a woman to be allowed to cross the lines, in part: "<I>The object of this letter is to make known Mrs. Betty Pratt in whose behalf it is written. She is the wife of Capt. Bernard Pratt of Mo now in our service. Mrs. Pratt is also the niece of Genl. Taylor and the niece of Mrs. Genl McLaws.
