Stilwell provided detailed answers to 8 questions concerning subjects such as “the functions of the pneumo-gastric nerve”, the “signs of drowning” and the “anatomy of the knee joint”. His explanation of the anatomy of the knee joint includes a small sketch of the knee. Stilwell was promoted to Assistant Surgeon on June 19, 1863.
