C. 1942-1947 New Mexico U. S. Highway 87 Road Sign
Featured in this lot is this reflective New Mexico U.S. Highway 87 road sign circa 1942-1947. The sign is a heavy thick metal with painted finish. In New Mexico, US 87 travels in a northwesterly direction and is primarily marked as an east-west route by NMDOT. Just after entering New Mexico, near Clayton, it connects with US 64. Up to Des Moines, it travels to the northwest before turning farther west to reach Raton. It splits off from US 64 at Raton and joins Interstate 25 and US 85, with which it continues to run concurrently through Raton Pass and into Colorado, however much of the concurrency is unsigned. The sign shows a black, white and gold color scheme with the gold section being reflective. The sign reads, "New Mexico / US / 87" in black lettering and is in a shield shape. It features two holes, one located top middle and the other bottom middle for easy hanging. The sign shows good condition for its vintage age with no signs of obvious damage. There are small scratches throughout but the sign remains very readable. The sign measures 15 3/4" L x 16 1/2" W.
