Offered in this lot is the Rare Classic, "Indian Blankets And Their Makers", 1937. Complete with 254 illustrations, this is a comprehensive guide to the art and craft of Native American blankets and particularly, Navajo. Also included to a lesser extent are other Pueblo Indian weavers such as the Hopi and Zuni. George Wharton James (1858-1923) was prolific popular lecturer, anthropologist, ethnologist, explorer, photographer, journalist, social reformer, and editor, writing more than 40 books and many articles and pamphlets on California "mission" architecture and the American Southwest. James researched the Navajo, Zuni and Hopi Indians in the Southwest. This red textured clothbound gold gilt titled hardcover book is in very nice condition, minimal fading and scuffing noted to cover and edges. Gold gilt is bright on front cover, slight fading noted to the spine, front cover illustration of a Navajo blanket design. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and very slight foxing, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 7.25"W x 10.25"L x 1.5"D
