C. 1931 Sacramento River Steamer Oil on Board
Presented in this lot is an Original Oil on Board "Sacramento River Steamer" by R. Halfpap, 1931, signed "RH" on the bottom right corner, "R. Halfpap Sacramento River Steamer 1931" on front gold coloured nameplate, "R. Halfpap 1931" in pencil on the reverse. From the 1800's until the early 1940s, the Sacramento River in California featured paddle steamer boats that carried cargo and passengers between San Francisco and Sacramento. In the 1890s passenger traffic was less than 15,000, though by 1913 alone it had reached over 200,000, with the most traffic experienced during the Spring and Summer months. By the 1930s, truck, auto, bus and rail transportation ate heavily into river boat transportation. This painting features a solitary paddle steamer plying the river waters as it passes by verdant hills that flank the river. Warm colours of orange, red, green and yellow dominate the scene reminiscent of a warm afternoon. The painting is in very nice overall condition. The hardwood gold gilt trim frame exhibits slight scuffing to its edges, no other obvious marring noted. Visible art measures 10"W x 13.75"L, frame is 14.25"W x 18.25"L x .75"D
