C. 1930- Lakota Sioux Beaded Steer Hide Men's Vest
The lot features a steer hide men’s vest with beautiful pony beaded front from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians dating to circa 1930-1950’s. The piece is comprised of tanned steer hide leather with the hair on the back of the vest having a brown / black to white coloring being thread sewn and completely covered on the front with glass trade pony beads in a typical geometric pattern. The background shows a light pony blue coloring with border in catlinite pipestone (color not material) red with pattern in the same pipestone red, corn yellow, cobalt, and medium green. The bottom edge of the men’s vest has hand cut fringes. The piece has a tear at the top back of the vest, hair loss on the reverse, remnants of display tacking, but shows soft slightly stiffening hide preserved well and little to no bead loss. From a private Montana Cowboy and Native American collection. Measures overall when closed 23.5”L by 18”W and is 34”W at the bottom when opened.
