Featured in this lot is this Hopi Indian "Morning Kachina," doll head circa 1930-1940's. The Kachina doll head is wonderfully and professionally crafted cottonwood construction that shows the traditional "Morning Kachina" design with the plumes of wooden feathers protruding from the head that is naturally colored blue with red and black tip polka dot decoration set to a metal stand. The piece shows its original museum or collectors tag on the bottom and it reads as follows: 96.12.17. The condition of this Kachina head is fair to good with some minor repairs to the wooden feathers and some fading to the naturally dyed decoration but otherwise shows fair to good overall condition. The measurements of this Kachina head is 6 1/4" x 9 1/4" x 2". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery.
