Featured in this lot is a photogravure on tissue of the Site of a Prehistoric Village- Cahuilla, circa 1924 from American photographer, Edward S. Curtis, who was born in 1868 and died in 1952. The photograph shows a wonderfully and professionally crafted photogravure on tissue construction that shows a canyon with high ridges lined with a forest and a high desert central chasm. The photogravure is marked as follows: Site of a Prehistoric Village - Cahuilla - From Copyright Photograph 1924 by E. S. Curtis. Edward Sherriff Curtis (February 19, 1868 – October 19, 1952) was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and on Native American people. Sometimes referred to as the "Shadow Catcher", Curtis traveled the United States to document and record the dwindling ways of life of various native tribes through photographs and audio recordings.
