Pluribus Unum banner in its mouth framed by two 48 star United States flags (flags that date to circa 1912-1959) with border of leaves and large caliber cartridges. The bottom shows a U.S. Soldier holding a rifle with bayonet and mother and child behind, crossed rifle and sword with heart bearing the five-point star and soldier writing a letter in a trench. There are two oval portraits at the center, one of Oglala Sioux Joe No Water and the other his Oglala Sioux wife, Anna No Water. Marked on the back, “Nephew of Red Cloud / Joe No Water Anna No Water”. The entire piece, front and back is metal. Provenance: From the Jim Aplan Piedmont, South Dakota collection.
