Featured in this lot is a Southern Louisiana religious Voodoo ritual mask circa early 1900s. The Voodoo mask is wonderfully and professionally crafted with wooden and natural fiber construction. The face of the mask is etched with symbolic geometric patterns to the cheeks and forehead of the mask with open eyes to look out of an an open mouth with wooden teeth. The hair of the mask is constructed from braided natural fibers with a base of braided natural fibers that wrap around the wearer's head. Louisiana Voodoo, also known as New Orleans Voodoo, is an African diasporic religion which originated in Louisiana. It arose through a process of syncretism between the traditional religions of West Africa, the Roman Catholic form of Christianity, and Haitian Vodou. No central authority is in control of Louisiana Voodoo which is organized through autonomous groups. The condition of this Voodoo mask is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this Voodoo mask are 9" x 11" x 11".*
