C. 1890-1900's Chippewa Beaded Large Bandolier Bag
This is a fantastic, large beaded bandolier bag from the Chippewa dating to circa 1890-1900’s with amazing whimsical beadwork, ex-Heritage. The bag exhibits a very large, rectangular section of beadwork and broad shoulder strap having a beautiful, whimsical floral beadwork pattern done in period correct early glass trade seed beads. The beadwork shows colors of greasy yellow, amber, medium green, semi-transparent green, faceted brass, black, white, Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent red, lilac, greasy white and greasy blue floral designs as well as sections of “crazy” beadwork with many more colors. The bag is comprised of trade muslin and canvas with trade clothe backing as well as black yarn fringes with Czechoslovakian bugle tube trade beads. The beadwork is well kept with little bead loss and is truly striking in its craftsmanship an art appeal as well as striking due to its large size.

Provenance: Found to be an authentic example of Chippewa early bag by the experts at Heritage back in 2014; from a private Native American collection in California. The connection of the shoulder strap to bottom section has some thread loss and the back shows some slight loss to the fabric backing, the “bag” section is sewn shut. Measures overall 46-inches long overall, shoulder strap is 7.75-inches wide. Original Heritage Auction tag still included.
